Beijing 798 is an area of enormous energy. Electronic factories in the 1950s and new renovations are constantly taken place. Art galleries and shops change the interface of the street every few weeks. Like any developing region, anxiety emerges while order hides. We were commissioned to create an "artistic space for shop" in an existing building, but as a pop-up it only existed for 3 months.
So we started to "stack mountains and stone" in space.
Starting from the frame logic of the original steel structure, we use the scaffold to build a structure that can correspond to the beam. While emphasizing the overall magnificence, it pays attention to the dynamic density in the horizontal and vertical arrangement, and leaves pathway for people to walk through in the structure. Functionally, the display and dressing areas are subdivided, and scaffold can be added on many accessories: clothes rails, counter tops, led tubes, tarpaulins, and curtains, which meet the brand display needs of clothing, bags, and helmets.
The area near the street façade has a low floor height, which lowers people's sight, and the space is divided into small pieces by the columns. We try to mend the gap with small-scale displays, so as to create a garden space in which to wander. After the Chinese furniture is wrapped in kraft paper, it shows a "thin, leaky and wrinkled" lake stone temperament. Commodities are placed randomly, and it is more interesting as hunting for treasures.
In terms of plan layout, the front zone is shop area, and the narrow and long space in the back zone is used for projection display. People's eyes can see the rear projection from the street through the "stone" and "mountain".
